Ultra Music Festival

Miami is a vibrant coastal metropolis famed for its Art Deco skyline, Latin energy, year-round tropical warmth and beach-and-club lifestyle — the spiritual home of American EDM each March. Ultra, born in 1999 as a single beachside stage, has grown into the flagship festival of the global dance music industry, taking over Bayfront Park downtown with the Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic as its backdrop. Beyond the festival, Miami is a tropical playground: South Beach's pastel Art Deco hotels, Wynwood's street-art galleries, Little Havana's Cuban cafés, and the Everglades wilderness are all within 30 minutes. It's the only major world festival you can reach by swimming from your hotel.

Getting There

Miami International Airport (MIA) connects to all major hubs; 15 min to downtown by taxi/rideshare or 30 min by Metrorail. Bayfront Park is walkable from downtown hotels.

Best Time

March for Ultra; December–April for dry season. Summer (Jun–Sep) is hot, humid and hurricane season.

Currency

US Dollar ($). Cards accepted everywhere; tipping 15–20% is expected.

Language

English. Spanish is spoken by ~70% of Miami-Dade County — you'll hear it everywhere, especially in Little Havana.

Getting Around

Metromover (free downtown loop), Metrorail, rideshare (Uber/Lyft). A rental car is useful for Everglades and Key Largo day trips but parking in South Beach is expensive.

Top Attractions

South Beach & the Art Deco District
01

South Beach & the Art Deco District

The most famous beach in America — a 4-km stretch of white sand and turquoise Atlantic, backed by the world's largest concentration of Art Deco architecture (800+ pastel buildings from the 1930s–50s). Ocean Drive is a parade of convertibles and models; Collins Avenue is the boutique-and-lounge strip. Walk it at sunrise before the crowds, or at midnight when the neon is blazing.

Wynwood Walls & Street Art District
02

Wynwood Walls & Street Art District

A former warehouse district turned open-air art gallery — 50+ giant murals by the world's top street artists, curated since 2009 by community pioneer Tony Goldman. The surrounding Wynwood neighbourhood is now Miami's hippest: craft breweries, galleries, food trucks and the famous Wynwood Block parties. Go during the monthly art walk for the full experience.

Little Havana & Calle Ocho
03

Little Havana & Calle Ocho

The heart of Cuban Miami — Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street) is a 2-km strip of cafés, cigar shops, domino parks and salsa bars. Grab a cortadito at Versailles (the iconic exile café since 1971), watch abuelos play dominoes in Máximo Gómez Park, and visit the Cubaocho Museum. Little Havana is the cultural soul of the city and 10 minutes from Bayfront Park.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens
04

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

A 1916 Italian Renaissance villa on Biscayne Bay — the winter home of agricultural tycoon James Deering, built as a European palace shipped stone-by-stone from Italy. Thirty-four rooms of 16th-century antiques, a formal garden of fountains and statuary, and a stone barge on the bay. Vizcaya is Miami's most beautiful single sight.

Miami Design District
05

Miami Design District

An 18-block neighbourhood of luxury fashion boutiques, contemporary art galleries and public sculpture, built on what was once a barren warehouse zone. The ICA Miami (Institute of Contemporary Art) is free, and the district's murals, LED installations and architecture make it a walking gallery. The flagship stores of Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Dior anchor the district.

Everglades National Park
06

Everglades National Park

A 1.5-million-acre subtropical wilderness of sawgrass prairies, mangrove tunnels and alligators — the largest such ecosystem in the Western Hemisphere, a UNESCO World Heritage Site 45 minutes west of Miami. Airboat tours skim the river of grass; look for alligators, egrets, anhingas and the elusive Florida panther. The Shark Valley tram loop is the classic half-day trip.

Key Biscayne & Bill Baggs Park
07

Key Biscayne & Bill Baggs Park

A quiet barrier island 20 minutes from downtown — home to one of America's best urban beaches (Cape Florida), a 19th-century lighthouse and a nature trail. The view of the Miami skyline across Biscayne Bay at sunset is iconic. Key Biscayne is the local's South Beach — calm, family-friendly and free of the Ocean Drive chaos.

Bayside Marketplace & Bayfront Park
08

Bayside Marketplace & Bayfront Park

Ultra's front door — Bayfront Park is a 32-acre waterfront park where the festival's main stage rises each March, with the bay, the port cranes and the Biscayne skyline as backdrop. Bayside Marketplace next door is a touristy open-air mall of restaurants and boat-tour kiosks. Outside Ultra, the park hosts free concerts and a nightly fountain show.
